Welcome to 2024! The learning framework is rebranded to celebrate a new year, with a modern look, new topics, and the same great content. The annual theme is
Everyday Leadership.
Active listening is an important concept that affects interactions in the work environment.
Mind Tools suggests that good active listening allows people to make a conscious effort to hear the words one is saying and, more importantly, the complete message being communicated.
As you apply active listening to your communication, consider using the ideas introduced by the
Indeed Career Guide. Use the tips below to enhance your communication and listening skills:
• Try to summarize the main points of the shared message to convey understanding;
• Ask open-ended questions to show comprehension of the presented topic;
• Ask specific probing questions and affirm information;
• Show the speaker that you empathize with them;
• Provide support by sharing similar experiences;
• Recall previously shared information to show you are invested in the interaction;
• Use non-verbal communication such as nodding, smiling, and eye contact to show the speaker you understand the message; and,
• Lastly, try to avoid distracting movement that detracts attention away from the speaker
The content above provides great insight into practicing good active listening. As you meet with your teammates, consider giving the tips a try. Good luck!
While participation is optional, our goal is to provide just the right amount of education so supervisors can meet their LDR goals, and all team members can meet their individual educational goals.
